The Lil’ Scouts’ basecamp is inside the incredible Poochie’s Park, an 8-acre mixture of nature, amusements, art, and comfortable facilities all for friendly dogs and the people who love them!
Join us today and discover the joy of watching your dog grow into a well-rounded, highly trained, highly socialized Lil’ Scout!
Your dog is always going to want to join in the fun! However, sometimes the safest place for them is to sit back and watch.
Kenneling your pup isn't always practical, so teaching clear boundaries and emotional regulation is a valuable alternative.
Kylo isn't in a "stay." Instead, he's learned that physical boundaries mean he should wait for permission before crossing them. In this case, that boundary is simply the change in elevation—the hill.
What surprised me, is that I never specifically taught this scenario. He generalized the concept from waiting at doorways and staying on our patio at home until released. Smart guy!
Dogs are capable of learning concepts, not just commands. When we are clear with our expectations, our pups can apply their knowledge in new environments and situations.
Your dog is capable of this too!

Why am I walking in circles around Bella? To build better reliability with her "Place" cue! We work on different scenarios to help the dog understand the cue is applicable in all situations. This is Bella's 2nd time working on "Place" so it is still a very new concept to her.

Congratulations to Charlie! He completed our board & train program. During this program we focused on teaching Charlie how to regulate his excitement and other big emotions. We also worked on building up Charlie's obedience foundation.
At Lil' Scouts, your goal is our goal!
We will miss you Charlie!

Oops! Human error. I didn't use the proper release cue. He looks back at me to make sure he understood clearly. The release cue to him is "Free"... "Go" is not a defined cue to him. Remember to be clear & consistent with your communication!

Kaia & Roscoe started the session thinking it was time to wrestle! After all, they were just out in the play yards together. Turns out it was time to work on "Place" and settle down.
If every interaction with another dog is always play, sometimes we start to see our pup struggle with settling around other dogs. Don't forget to help your pup practice settling and staying calm!
